The artist commonly known as Rihanna (her full name is Robyn Rihanna Fenty), was born in Barbados on February 20, 1988. Rihanna became famous at the age of 16 when she signed with Def Jam Records. Her first album, Music of the Sun, sold more than two million copies worldwide. Her fame did not end there though, she continued on to release more albums with a number of hit songs and has also won multiple industry awards including Grammys and MTV awards.
Rihanna’s Grammy-winning 2012 album, Unapologetic, turned out numerous top hits including “Diamonds” and “Stay”, and was also her first album to hit number one on the pop charts. She’s also worked with top artists such as Coldplay (“Princess of China”) and Eminem (“The Monster”). During this time, Rihanna also began to break into the movie industry, co-starting in the sci-fi flick Battleship (2012) and also being the lead in a more recent Disney movie, Home (2015).
One of the things most fans of Rihanna like about her is her sexually provocative imagery and wyldstyle, she is not afraid to flaunt what she’s got! Back in 2014, the pop star made headlines for the sheer dress she wore to the Council of Fashion Designers of America awards ceremony in June. During this event, she received the CFDA’s Fashion Icon Award and told the crowd that “fashion has always been [her] defence mechanism,” according to an AP (Associated Press) report. The star’s whole outlook on fashion rules is that “rules are meant to be broken.” It was during this time that Rihanna made another bold move, this time professionally, switching from Def Jam label to Jay-Z’s Roc Nation.
Rihanna’s fame has only increased since then, in August 2015, NBC announced that she would be the key adviser on their hit show, The Voice, during their ninth season. During the same year, she also contributed vocals to the single “FourFiveSeconds” (a Paul McCartney and West collaboration), and released “B**** Better Have My Money” (a song that was allegedly inspired by a court case between herself and her former manager). However, her 2015 fame doesn’t end there: Rihanna had 100 million singles digitally downloaded and streamed, making her the first artist in history with this record.
Rihanna’s fame is only continuing to grow, this past January she released her next album Anti, through Jay-Z’s online streaming site, Tidal, which exclusively featured the collection of tracks for a week. This paid off for the struggling service, because one million trial subscribers joined Tidal in less than a day in order to download Anti. The leading single on this track? None other than the top hit, “Work” which features the rapper, Drake. Now, Rihanna just announced her seventh concert tour, the Anti World Tour, in support of her new album Anti. The tour was announced last November and began on March 12 of this year in Jacksonville and is scheduled to end November 27 in Abu Dhabi. The singer is scheduled to perform 74 shows over North America, Europe, and Asia.
Included in her world tour, Rihanna will be coming to Weston Park, London, on August 20th! What better way to support our favourite pop singer than by wearing a printed t-shirt to her concert? So order your t-shirt now and party the night away at the concert!
